The joint Tajik-Uzbek film Shining Stars: Jami and Navoi won the top prize at the third Toji Somon National Film Awards. The ceremony took place on October 19 at the Sadriddin Ayni Opera and Ballet Theatre in Dushanbe.
The film explores the friendship and creative ties between two 15th-century poets, Abd al-Rahman Jami and Alisher Navoi. Fayzullo Fayz and Dilmurod Masaidov directed the historical production.
The film’s art department also received awards. Tohir Nazar was recognised for his artistic work on the historical film, while Lutfullo Nematov received the production design award.
The project brought filmmakers from both countries together around their shared literary history. The relationship between Jami and Navoi provides the basis for a story about mentorship, poetry and Central Asia’s cultural connections.
