Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism has announced the official opening date for Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. The museum of modern and contemporary art will open its doors on December 11, 2026.
Thirty galleries and ten sculptural cones
Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Frank Gehry, the museum stands on Saadiyat Island where land meets the sea. It has a total built-up area of 80,000 square metres, including 11,600 square metres of indoor galleries and 23,000 square metres of outdoor exhibition space.
Thirty galleries are connected by a central atrium. Ten sculptural cones, rising as high as 88 metres, provide shade and natural ventilation.
Art from 1960 to the present
The museum will present painting, sculpture, installation, photography, moving image and new media. Its collection has been assembled since 2009 and will explore art from 1960 to the present through themes including abstraction, popular culture, land, language and storytelling.
Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will join Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi and teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi in the Saadiyat Cultural District.
