The Booker Prize 2026 longlist has been announced. Thirteen novels written in English and published in the UK or Ireland were selected from 163 submissions. The judging panel is chaired by classicist, author and broadcaster Mary Beard.
Who made the longlist
Former winners Marlon James and Douglas Stuart are joined by previously shortlisted Elizabeth Strout. Ten writers are longlisted for the first time, while Kenan Orhan, Rebecca Perry and Djamel White are nominated for debut novels.

What happens next
Beard is joined by poet Raymond Antrobus, musician Jarvis Cocker, critic Rebecca Liu and novelist Patricia Lockwood. The six-book shortlist will be announced at London’s Southbank Centre on September 22.
The winner will be named on November 9 and receive £50,000. Each shortlisted author will receive £2,500.
